Panda Internet Security 2014 Review

One of the pioneers of the internet security industry, Panda first launched a cloud-based scanner in 2007 – well ahead of the competition. Panda has been in the security business for over 20 years and has customers in nearly 200 countries. They have now translated their software into over 20 languages. They were the first internet security company to provide cloud-based antivirus protection in 2009 and launched the first Host Intrusion Prevention System in 2004. They are market innovators who keep in step with the equally creative cybercrime industry.

There are many handy features to this software that are not available in all software of this type. These features include identity protection, parental controls, backup and restore, online backup and home network manager, and a virtual keyboard that works around key loggers to keep your passwords secure. One of the better features not typically seen is the SOS virus response, which submits suspicious files to Panda engineers. This increases the likelihood that viruses will be caught and the definitions updated before it becomes prevalent.

The Panda Security Cloud Technology offers a new protection model based on a user community where everyone contributes. Your computer will always be updated and protected. Additionally, as Panda’s huge virus detection database is in the cloud, not on your PC, your PC will lack neither performance nor detection capabilities.

The Panda software program has not been reviewed by a lot of independent antivirus test sites. This makes it difficult to say how effective it really is, although there are plenty of positive user reviews on various websites online. Overall, the effectiveness of previous editions of Panda Internet Security suggest that the software will be very effective at finding and destroying malware, but that the other features may leave something to be desired. For example, the parental controls of previous versions were very effective, but the anti-spam filter is not very effective at all.

The key features, such as antivirus, anti-malware and anti-spam pretty much set themselves up and integrate with your operating system and email agent. They can be left to get on with their work. The other features need more tweaking. Tune-up is little more than is already available in Windows. You can defragment your drives and clean file fragments and logs, but there’s no attempt to clean the registry or optimise applications loaded at start-up.

With the parental control tool you can create profiles for kids, teens, employees or any other type of user. It can also manage block and allow lists for each user profile. If you are worried about what your kids might be doing while you are away, you can configure Panda to create reports of restricted websites that your teens attempt to access. The identity protection tool lets you configure exactly what information you do not want shared online without your permission, such as your social security or credit card number. To protect you data and media even further they provide 2GB of free online storage, and you can access your computer and applications settings remotely. Another powerful tool it has is the ability to create a Panda SafeCD, which can safely remove malware from your computer if you cannot access Windows.

Back up and retrieve your data whenever you need it quickly and simply. Specify the files to protect, choose where to save them (external hard disk or the Internet), and back up your most important files easily and without any hassles.

The 2014 edition of both Panda Internet Security and Panda Antivirus Pro boost their capabilities against viruses, hackers and other threats. In addition to these features, Panda Internet Security 2014 also provides options to protect the family, the user’s identify and user data through parental control, remote access, removal of spam and backup with file restore, and other features.
